My Favourite series

I have to say, the Watch series (not the TV show) is my absolute favourite of the Discworld. I recently introduced my son, starting him on Guards Guards, and the story arc from Sam Vimes in the gutter to His Grace, His Excellency, The Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes is just one of the most incredible things.

Although, I think the character I probably quote / paraphrase / identify with the most in teal life is probably Nobby Nobbs, which is a shame but there we are.

I love Discworld’s general messing with tropes, and this instance is one of the best, subverting the “defective detective” pattern.

Cam

I’m absolutely a Vimes/Watch fanboy, followed closely by Moist. I find that Vimes and Moist are very similar characters, but approach problems from very different directions.

Death of Rats

Vimes is alright; however, I find myself enjoying the Patrician’s scenes best in the books focusing on the city. There’s just something about the lawful, but law unto himself, that appeals to my brain-fancy.
